Wool Fertilizer Pellets
One of our goals at Blue Mountain Farms is to have as little waste in our fiber processing mill as possible and utilize everything we can! We also don't like to turn people away with high vm fleeces, but can't run high vegetation fleeces through our fiber mill. That is what led us to start pelletizing wool into fertilizer pellets!
Wool Pellets are a great addition to outdoor gardens, boosting during transplanting, and indoor plants. It can be mixed in with the soil before planting (For the best results we suggest approx 1/2 cup of pellets for every gallon of soil), or it can be added as a top dressing to the soil after planting. It is a slow release fertilizer, helps with water retention in hotter/dry months, and has a variety of other benefits. Wool holds up to 20 times its weight in water and releases it slowly, which helps to reduce the need for watering while protecting roots from too much moisture. As the pellets expand, they will aerate and allow oxygen exchange in the soil.
We have been doing multiple test plots in our gardens and Christmas tree farm with positive results. We have also been sending samples of pellets in for testing in the lab setting. The pellets will slowly break down and release their nutrients back to the soil, providing nitrogen, carbon, calcium, iron, magnesium and more! (N-K-P approximately 9-0-5)
Store in a cool, dry place. Pellets will begin to expand and break down when exposed to moisture.
