What a lovely weekend it was!! I was able to enjoy a quilting retreat with such a welcoming group of ladies! I even managed to finish piecing a quilt top that I've had in the works for two years! That was a group effort deciding colors and tearing out old colors I wasn't as sold on! We had a lesson on these adorable sewn baggies, which I plan to stuff with our farm goodies for the holiday season in our farm store & tree farm! Today I hosted a group of lovely ladies in town for a girls weekend and they wanted to visit with our animals and tour the fiber mill! They were so fun and said it was the highlight of their trip playing with baby bunnies and going home with goodies produced from the very animals that they visited during their trip! It was a heart warming weekend that makes all the hard work we do each day worth continuing! Farrier day! Comet always has to be right up where the action is!
This week, we had the pleasure of meeting Missy of @crownhillfarmny and we had a lovely visit. She is very passionate about all natural techniques in dyeing fibers and also in her agricultural practices! She posts a lot of fun happenings on her farm, so be sure to hop on over to her insta account and give her a follow! It's amazing what all these women in Ag can really accomplish together! #womeninagriculture #farmher
Yesterday was shearing day for our floofy little sheepies!! We are so lucky that Tyler takes such care of our sheep and we can't wait to get started on making new goodies for the farmstore with their luscious fleeces! Check out that crimp and sheen on the twin Romney fleeces! Tyler had a good supervisor on duty too! Our Blue Mountain farm-grown Baked Apples are the perfect treat, especially during the fall season! They have a little zing from the apples, spice from the cinnamon, and sweet from the apples, maple syrup, and honey! They are a great warmed as a side dish for something sweet, topped on ice cream, or even a breakfast addition on top of your pancake stack! Use your imagination in the kitchen and they are sure to satisfy!
Fair season! What are some of your favorite fair memories!? This year was a full circle year! Ashley was the 2010 Gratz Fair queen (feels like yesterday) and was invited back this year to judge the contest! We decided to make a whole family day out of it and support our community fair! Matt and Angie went head to head in the cake contests (it's our own friendly competition we do each year to see who's cakes and pies make it the farthest! Unfortunately, Matt's cake didn't place out of a competitive class of chocolate cakes, but Angie's Angelfood cake was awarded 2nd! We did the real fairgoer thing and the guys all hopped on the mechanical bull... don't judge their form... we've been told it's wayyy different then horses! It was great to see a nice size rabbit show, lots of youth exhibitors, overwhelming volunteer support, and friends near and far! We may not have brought home the Blue Ribbon this year, but we sure did make some Blue Ribbon memories! |
