Let's talk about skirting for a minute! In no way is this to shame or embarrass anyone... yet let's use it for an educational experience! Animals will be animals and they absolutely won't stay clean on their own... it's part of their nature. But there are things we as growers can do to help maintain clean fleeces such as feeding practices, pasture management, keeping their environment/barn stalls clean. The cleaner the fiber is kept from the day they are shorn, the nicer your end result with your fiber will be! Bonus... it also helps reduce your processing costs by eliminating additional washing/skirting fees.
We really do value our customers, each and every one! We appreciate all of the trust put in us to deliver a great product all at a reasonable cost, but it's a team effort! We are working very hard every day to reduce our backlog, all while maintaining our costs. However, we need help doing just that. When we receive fiber in the mill that is full of vegetation that was clearly not attempted to be skirted or kept clean, we can't process it. (Side note... we can turn it into wool pellets). We always strive to return a quality product from the fiber we are provided, but when fiber is delivered in the condition similar to what is pictured, it creates considerable issues in processing. (And yes this was fiber that was unfortunately sent to our mill for processing into yarn). It also causes premature wear and tear on our carding cloth, not to mention the loss of time having to excessively clean our machines. We realize that sorting and skirting isn't always a fun task, but one that, if you do before sending to the mill, it will reduce your overall costs of processing as well as yield you a much nicer product. As much as we would love to wave a magic wand and poof clean... it doesn't work that way. We skirt every fleece that enters the mill before washing, but just can't do it to the extent pictured. Thank you as always for your support, teamwork, and understanding! New product alert!! We've been busy bees!
We tried something new to us! We officially have Jalapeño honey! Talk about sweet with a little heat! The cool thing about our Jalapeno honey is that we also grow the peppers used to supply the kick of heat to this yummy blend! Our jalapeno pepper honey pairs well in marinades, salad dressing, and on chicken delivering a complimentary sweet and spicy flavor in every bite! Check it out on our website or in our farm store today! https://www.bluemountainfarms.net/store/c10/Honey.html Contrary to what most believe, December isn't always the most busy time of the year on a Christmas tree farm. There is actually a lot of work to be done in the spring/summer as well! Now (right before and around bud break), there are regular sprayings, watering, mowing, and other routine practices that must be done in order to ensure healthy growth throughout the years until it reaches mature height to be enjoyed in your home. It is best to do this early in the morning with a low wind factor. This morning was the perfect, peaceful morning! While it's work, you can't beat the view!
Stole this from Christin! This was on her drive to work up our lane today! It's a little scary if you're not cautious, but also how neat to be able to see such a rare sighting of nature's beautiful creatures. Now it's time to go check on all the beehives!
Some views from our office just never get old! It's baby Christmas Tree planting day... round 2!
Spring has sprung with some freshly dyed bright colors!!! Looking forward to this upcoming batch of yarn!
The sun is shining, the blooms are popping, and we now have blueberry and cherry bushes available!! Our secret- the Duke blueberry bushes look amazing and we've had a lot of great feedback from customers on their bushes from last year overwintering very well! Stop by today or check out our stock online at: https://www.bluemountainfarms.net/.../Fruit_Trees_%26... We are so blessed to have a great team working together here at Blue Mountain Farms! This morning, Christin came in to kick off our Friday right with some Easter gnome cupcakes and made us search for flowers in the mill! Earlier this week, we made them go on a scavenger hunt for Easter baskets! We all work hard each day, but we all pitch in to keep things fun too!
Thank you all for your continued support for all small businesses! I know we say it a lot, but we couldn't do it without community support! We hope you all have such a lovely Easter weekend with friends and family! The Mill got some nice, much needed remodeling done to it! We worked together to make it happen and it looks so much better! Next time you visit, it will be nice and bright! Photo credits to Christin!
